Letters, diaries and photographs from World War II

Wednesday 14th February 1945

A large A.D. caught fire. There were terrific explosions for the first hour with smaller ones all night. We had hundreds of coolies got out. The Scout Chev of Daley goes to 5 LAA. That’s the first. Best takes the Aldershot shelter I had off to 78th. All my collection being disbanded. I’m not sorry if we are to go mobile and I get new transport etc. The B team is out again and loses to 41 I.GH.

A.D. = possibly Ammunition Depot?

Chev = Chevrolet

LAA = Light Anti-Aircraft (Division)

IGH = Indian General Hospital

Aldershot Shelters were apparently temporary tents or marquees issued to field workshops to allow them to maintain vehicles under cover.
